October 2011: What's Squidooman Doing?

Hey every-body!

For the next couple of days I'll be working on a few side projects, but more importantly, I'll be trying to sell Batman: Arkham CIty as it starts to release.

This month's Who is...Squidooman! update focuses on that very topic. I'm in the midst of pulling together all the media and making a nice, shiny article that gives a summary of the game as well as a cool backdrop for the comic book series that leads into it. What I thought I'd do is give everyone a preview while I'm in the midst of building it.(...and I'm slow.)

Should be fun. (I'm already having fun scrambling to get it together.)

You can follow the Batman: Arkham City article here.

Squidooman Blog Created. And the September Translation.

Among the many projects I have going on at this time, Squidooman always tugs at me when I'm not looking. An icon of my Squidoo beginnings, he was always there, giving me the start in this freelance world, reminding me how to make things fun.

Here goes: I made a Squidooman blog; I'll be updating it monthly. Here on Czirr's Domain, I'll translate those updates.

Squidlog (20110912): Information Superhighway...to Justice?

In the last 30 days, I've finally implemented my Squidooman Blog on Blogger. The reason I made it was because it's easier to format the material and add my pictures wherever I want them. On top of that, I can sprinkle it with ads and whatnot without any restriction.

I came up with the idea because the Who is...Squidooman? Squidoo Lens Page is getting too long, which in turn makes it less fun to read; that's when I thought to myself "how am I going to keep updating this page and still make it look nice?"

So what I'm doing as of today is writing my updates on Squidooman's Blog site and linking the updates to his Lens page. In other words, the Lens will update automatically when I update his blog; it'll also have the most important, interactive stuff. And if you still want to go back to the archived Squidooman posts, you can head over to the blog and check them out.

That's why this month's update is about the Information Superhighway. It's time to use the Internet to help Squidooman's Len Page.

The Countdown Conversion-Migration-Exodus-Thingy!

Alright, today went mostly smooth. Here's what I'm dealing with and then I gotta run.

1. First off, I took care of The Flashpoint Event. It's now wrapped up very nicely.

2. I've started the implementation of a "TSL This Week" event on my website. Basically, I get to write a summary of the most important things that happened in comic books for the last seven days. It's working nicely (although I'll have to see how it works).

3. All my updates went good...but...

4. It leads me to my conversion project. When Squidoo had problems in August, that led me to try to create a Countdown List on my own website. It's called The Top 10 Greatest Agents of SHIELD (feel free to check it out). I'm not heavily promoting it; what I wanted is a contingency plan if something ever happened on Squidoo.

Well, it's doing ok, but I'm seeing some formatting problems when I try to stick social media boxes on it. Check out the Facebook Like, Share, and Twitter buttons; when I came in today to update the page, they were in an ERROR 404 pattern. So I deleted it and rewrote the script; now it's working.

In other words, it's not all shiny yet, but I'm getting there.

5. And finally, there's the Countdown Widget I'm using in conjunction with my website countdown project. It works great, but it took more than 30 minutes for me to break apart the script and figure out how to manually tweak it on my own. (30 minutes means I took a little longer than I had.)

Ok, I'm out! It was a good day.
