October 2011: What's Squidooman Doing?
Hey every-body!
For the next couple of days I'll be working on a few side projects, but more importantly, I'll be trying to sell Batman: Arkham CIty as it starts to release.
This month's Who is...Squidooman! update focuses on that very topic. I'm in the midst of pulling together all the media and making a nice, shiny article that gives a summary of the game as well as a cool backdrop for the comic book series that leads into it. What I thought I'd do is give everyone a preview while I'm in the midst of building it.(...and I'm slow.)
Should be fun. (I'm already having fun scrambling to get it together.)
You can follow the Batman: Arkham City article here.

Squidooman Blog Created. And the September Translation.
Among the many projects I have going on at this time, Squidooman always tugs at me when I'm not looking. An icon of my Squidoo beginnings, he was always there, giving me the start in this freelance world, reminding me how to make things fun.
Here goes: I made a Squidooman blog; I'll be updating it monthly. Here on Czirr's Domain, I'll translate those updates.
Squidlog (20110912): Information Superhighway...to Justice?
In the last 30 days, I've finally implemented my Squidooman Blog on Blogger. The reason I made it was because it's easier to format the material and add my pictures wherever I want them. On top of that, I can sprinkle it with ads and whatnot without any restriction.
I came up with the idea because the Who is...Squidooman? Squidoo Lens Page is getting too long, which in turn makes it less fun to read; that's when I thought to myself "how am I going to keep updating this page and still make it look nice?"
So what I'm doing as of today is writing my updates on Squidooman's Blog site and linking the updates to his Lens page. In other words, the Lens will update automatically when I update his blog; it'll also have the most important, interactive stuff. And if you still want to go back to the archived Squidooman posts, you can head over to the blog and check them out.
That's why this month's update is about the Information Superhighway. It's time to use the Internet to help Squidooman's Len Page.

The Countdown Conversion-Migration-Exodus-Thingy!
Alright, today went mostly smooth. Here's what I'm dealing with and then I gotta run.
1. First off, I took care of The Flashpoint Event. It's now wrapped up very nicely.
2. I've started the implementation of a "TSL This Week" event on my website. Basically, I get to write a summary of the most important things that happened in comic books for the last seven days. It's working nicely (although I'll have to see how it works).
3. All my updates went good...but...
Well, it's doing ok, but I'm seeing some formatting problems when I try to stick social media boxes on it. Check out the Facebook Like, Share, and Twitter buttons; when I came in today to update the page, they were in an ERROR 404 pattern. So I deleted it and rewrote the script; now it's working.
In other words, it's not all shiny yet, but I'm getting there.
5. And finally, there's the Countdown Widget I'm using in conjunction with my website countdown project. It works great, but it took more than 30 minutes for me to break apart the script and figure out how to manually tweak it on my own. (30 minutes means I took a little longer than I had.)
Ok, I'm out! It was a good day.

Villainous Moments and More...
I've been working today on my website, The Superheroes List, and have finally implemented one of my three planned projects called Villainous Moments.
The objective of Villainous Moments is to provide a look at the recent week's release of comic books and find one moment that really stuck out -- a bad, sickening moment that really made the bad guy look...well, bad! The secondary objective is to provide more content to my blog and create more followers.
This week the winner was Kuurth, Breaker of Stone; in Uncanny X-Men #541, he killed all his followers when a telepath tried to control them into walking away.
Besides that awesome implementation, I've begun transferring all the important features from my old TSL-Blog to my new one.

Smile! Smart is pretty stupid.
Ok, that does it. I need someone to point the finger at. Who--Al Gore? You invented the internet! Microsoft or Apple? You make all this junk! Canada? You're north!
Ok. What's the deal? I was heading to the airport this morning and on the drive, some girl was jogging on my side of the road. No big deal, I thought, but then I noticed she was headed right towards me; turns out she was texting with her head down. She almost ran into me! I had to swerve towards the other side just to keep her alive.
Ok, America; give me the scoop. Are you telling me we're better off this way? Shoot, I'm thinking this Amazon Kindle
and laptop are all I need. (Neither are useful while I'm driving or walking.) I mean, c'mon! Social media is great, but this is definately going too far.
Ok. Ok. I sporadically wondered how awesome it would be to record the incident with a camera cell phone. So now I've become just as sick! Thanks a lot! (No, you can't make me carry a cell phone -- just call my secretary.)
Oh yeah, before I forgot; I pulled down the site for my online story. It's not working quite right so I'm going to go with another approach. (Someone already tried to plaigerize me!)

Kinda scary. Then again, kinda fun.
This is where I tell you I woke up.
~Starting sentence, "The Mirror That Shined".
Because I'm always trying to come up with new stuff to try, today I put up an idea that I've been toying with, designed around Web 2.0 media sites.
Oh, ok...understand this: I'm always looking for readers, but I can only hit up other people so much! That's why I built an interactive landing page, a reading circle per se, for my short story "The Mirror That Shined". The backdrop is simple; I want to see if it can be better. I'm also hoping that it can generate some interest from some of the people out there and basically get unique opinions and comments.
As I put up the site, I pulled out my crumpled checklist; this is a delicate operation. There's some caution needed. I'm not worried about plaigerism, but this is a new venture for me. (For example, at this point there's no need, to release the entire story.)
Approx. 3000 words, this piece has already been written. Actually, it's been resting on my hard drive for about a year. I figured this was the best work to test using this technique. And hey...who knows what'll happen.

My Coupon defeats You!! Ok. How about Now? Well, what about now?....now?
Alright. I admit I saw an episode of Extreme Couponing the other day. I don't like to watch much TV, but sometimes I let it run in the background while I'm jotting things down in my journal.
And this show caught my eye; I mean, how're these people buying $600 dollars worth of stuff for only $6 bucks? Heck, I'm in the wrong profession! Just donate me a few quarters and I'll have a huge garage sale!
So, um, yeah, I went and bought two Sunday papers when I got back into town. And I'm sitting here on the floor of my den, cutting away page after page, shredding paper here and there. And by the time it's all finished, the floor is covered in trash, and I have 2 sets of coupons.
But that's not all! Now I get organize them. And before it's all over, I'm starting to wonder; what do these people do for a living? Because it took me hours to get all this together, and I'm sitting here with a coupon for $1.00 off a Lady Shick Shaver! What's worse, I head over to Price Chopper, and they don't even sell this Lady Shick Shaver!
Well, I haven't given up yet. (I did get some milk for 15 cents, but I had to buy 12 dollars of soda pop, which I don't drink.)
I think I'm going to have a garage sale or something and sell off those cans...

Ho Ho Ho! Wait. It's not Christmas. Oh YES IT IS!
Woohoo! I won tickets to the Major League Baseball game in my area! Mine. Mine. Mine! Talk about lucky, I didn't even know they were part of the prize package. (I signed up at Sonic for their Sonic Slam Contest.) Who knows, maybe I'll even win $25000?
This week I've ventured into a new concept that I've been building -- well, mostly it's been on the back-burning while I've been developing some of the actual content.
1. One of my creations, Squidooman, is building a product line. Since I'm new to the concept, I'll just start it slowly and build it gradually, but it looks like he's going to do very well. You can view his product store here.
2. The Superheroes List, a niche blogsite I created, is taking shape and becoming nailed down well. It's technically in it's 4th month, and now I'm doing at least 2 updates per week. Later, I'll probably update it to 3/week, but with vacation around the corner, I'm cautious on taking too much.
Oh, before I forget; I hooked up with some of my old friends today (I have a bad problem, staying anonymous and in hiding). Daaave!
See y'all soon!

So what's the super-secret strategy?
I've been racking my brain over the last few months with a technique, a glean of incredible wisdom, trying to turn it into a unique blog idea.
Well, I think I've got. No, you can't steal it. (Well, you can, but I've done it first.) And you probably don't want to do what I'm doing.
I created this blog called The Superheroes List. My technique was to find a keyword that gets lots of hits, but has little competition. Well, this was it: "Superheroes" and "Superheroes List".
Anyhow, so I built the blogsite thinking, "Ok, Blake, now you've created something that will get you pagerank just by referring to yourself."
But that's not all. You see, in itself, The Superheroes List created intent, to make a blog focused on unique lists about superheroes!
Think I'm kidding? Check this out:
The Top 10 Villains of Spider-Man
Marvel's 10 Strangest Superheroes
See what they've got in common? Yep, that's right! Not only do I have millions of ideas for lenses and articles, but I've also got a tie-in to my very-specific blogsite. And now, all I have to do is build more lists!
And that, my friends, won't be very hard at all...

Boing! Somebody...hit me!
Ok. What's going on? I just received another purple star. This time I got it for my Avengers Movie Fan Page.
Hey, I'm not complaining! Thanks people over at Squidoo! I'm just surprised that it's all happening so fast.
Believe it or not, the Avengers Movie Fan Page was one of my first lenses, made back in 2010, while I was just starting to figure out how to make them. In February, I revamped it with a lot of "look and feel" technique and better writing.
I'm more comfortable now putting together lenses. As a matter of fact, I can build a pretty decent lens on about anything. Today I put up a Five Finger Death Punch lens; most people won't believe I listen to their music, but that's ok. (I'm actually listening to 5FDP, Crossing Over, right now.)
You know, I should tell you all something: I think Squidoo and I are sympathetic. What I mean is, we seem to have seperate purposes that fit together perfectly. Squidoo wants members and is looking for people who want to provide unique writing. I, on the other hand, only want to write uniquely.
Somehow, I think Squidoo and I are going to benefit well from each other. And regardless, I think we're both enjoying ourselves.

He's got stars in his eyes!
That's right, I'm riverdancing!
I just got a purple star over here at Captain America vs. Wolverine! Somebody, quick, tell me what all I can do with it. (Rushes to add purple star glitter to the computer screen.) Whoo hoo!
Let me tell you how it all rolled out. Basically, I made a crappy article, with some fundamental mistakes, back in 2010 September. I've been on a "fix-it" roll lately, and decided to reinvent an article about Cap fighting Wolverine. Apparently it's gotten some recognition.

It's freezing here! I just saw a Robin-icicle fall to the ground. Time for Ice Cream!
Brrr! So much global warming around this spring. Oh, that's right..."man-made climate change". Got it.
Anyhow, I made my first amazon sale today with Squidoo! I was checking out some reports this morning and then noticed that my Godzilla vs. lens pulled 55 cents!
Ok, yeah, someone bought a Greenday CD; still, it came from my lens! (You gotta keep positive, Czirr!)
So here I am, sitting with my bowl of Ice Cream, in the freezing cold. You see, I turned off the heat last week when we hit 60s and 70s outside. I refuse to turn it back on. Ice Cream! Ice Cream!
If you're making lots of money right now, shut up! Ok, I'm proud for you, just remember, I'm on your heels now!
On a side note, I'm putting up my Laws of Magic, a set of rules I constructed last year that governs how magic can be implimented in books and so forth. I'll be holding it in a waiting pattern until I see a ripe time to market it.
Also, my Top 10 Strangest Heroes of Marvel is rocking solid; it's got the best ranking I've ever seen with one of my lenses (16,243), and doing better every day.
Some knucklehead beat me to establishing a Flashpoint web2.0 page, but that's ok. I got mine up first (just had to rename the title a bit).

No. I'm not really looking for topics.
Don't lose your head, guys!
Man, I'm tellin' you I've got a lot of stuff on my list. Right now I'm preparing a lens I just thought up. I've got a backlog of about 100 ideas (at least), sitting by my computer as I try to jumble them all together. I've got more work than time.
So far, the Top 10 Strangest Superheroes of Marvel is still working out very nice. I've also been jumping into Comic Book events, such as The Brightest Day and Fear Itself.
My goal? I'm focusing on user participation; I'm trying to create a following. If I get the confidence of readers, I should be able to bring them with me.
And no, I'm not interested in some sort of scam, just keeping the trust of those who like the way I write. The only thing that I wonder about is what they'll think when they see my horror. And the only worry is that I'll write less towards books.
I guess I'll just continue focusing on the fun stuff. The money really isn't important to me at this point.

This is a diabolical strategy. No, I don't want to talk about it!
So I've been on Squidoo for awhile, enjoying myself and typing away. In the meantime, I'm working on this other book (the plot and characters are great, I'm just having more fun writing about my favorite superheroes and stuff).
And I don't bother rushing myself; if I find that I'm bored, I move on to my next project. (That's how I end up writing better, anyhow.)
Ok, so I'm thinking, "let's see if I can generate above-average interest" with a lens. Squidooman is already doing pretty well, and I have a feeling I'll be seeing lots more of it from week to week, but I want to start trying different things.
And here's my (harmless) evil plan. I've created a new lens/article today called "The Top 10 Strangest Superheroes of Marvel Comics". But this time things are going to be a little different; week to week, I'll be updating it, and I've allowed for maximum observer participation.
I'll also be talking about it (respectfully and briefly) on the forums at Marvel. I'm really interested in how it works since it will be at least 10 weeks before the project is complete.
Oh, before I forget: "Why make billions when we can make...millions? Mwahahahahaa!"

Rebuilt my Blogsite Today
Ha ha...hahaha...hahahaha. Nope. Nothing fancy. For the last couple months I've been building a structure for some of my work. I saved this blogspot back in 2011, and now I figured it was time to put it to use.
(Stands around, looking around, whistlly whistling...)
Oh, don't worry....get ready...

Tracking the Red Skull
Recently I created an article on the Red Skull; I posted the article on Squidoo.com to see how it would do.
After checking some of the critique by the fine people in the SquidooU forums, the writing appears solid and sound. One of the things I'm doing with the Red Skull article is seeing how much interest it generates from Google and other search engines; I doubt there's enough sufficient interest through Squidoo alone.
As I'm tracking the Red Skull article right now, I do not see the page getting enough SEO attention; clearly, there's more needed to bump up this article.
For more information, the article can be found here at : http://www.squidoo.com/red-skull

The Squidoo Beginning (Part II?)
After a hiatus of three months, I finally returned to my desk and settled on the task of studying the Squidoo website. Previously, I had created nine "lenses", single-page html websites, so to speak, that serve to show off what the subscriber knows; they can be anything from tribute pages to a "How-to" page, to pages involving polls or debates.
To this extent, Squidoo is really fascinating, and it also, by the way, generates money based on the success of your work.
And therefore, late December, early January, I've been building some news lenses, trying out the scenery, and testing the system to see what it can do. I've put a few writing projects on hold while I take the time to learn some of the intricate ins and outs.
To couple my use of Squidoo, I've decided to join with two 3rd-party affiliations: Commission Junction and ShareaSale. I'll be posting my revenues from each on a monthly basis.
Summary for the December 2010 and January 2011 payouts:
I had started my Squidoo account back in mid-September, before I actually had to stop for the next three months; during that time, I had managed to make a total of nine lenses.
Then I had to let them sit in limbo. Those lenses (from September) are and why I made them:
Making Money With Mechanical Turk (09/07/2010) was created because I had previously written the article and wanted to give it a home. It's an in-depth, sincere review of the website.
Captian America VS. Wolverine (09/08/2010) is a fan site. As a comic book fan, I was looking for ideas, something in the real of hobby, to splash onto a lens.
Muscle Building Overview (09/08/2010) is a previously written article that I had not yet sold. I decided to house it on Squidoo, just to see what it would do.
Avengers Movie Fan Page (09/09/2010) is another fan site page. My thoughts are that it will generate more interest as the movie gets closer to screen, but will drop thereafter. I actually plan on developing a marketing strategy with the site, before and after the first showing.
How To Make A Magical Sword (09/10/2010) is an attempt at comedy, because I want to see how well comedy, mixed into lenses, perform. I'm also attempting some light Amazon sales with the lens.
The Top 10 Stories of H.P. Lovecraft (09/10/2010) is partially a tribute to the author, but based on my idea of "Top 10" articles, which always seem to draw extra interest. The beauty of this lens is that it's one of my hobbies, I have good background knowledge, and it's a decent niche topic.
Best Elliptical Machine Reviews (09/13/2010) is a lens purposed with the sales of high-end items. I wrote it because I wanted to see what happens if I try to throw more expensive items on Squidoo.
How To Handle Debt Collectors (09/14/2010) is an informative article I had lying around, which I decided to house on Squidoo. It's a sincere article that will eventually be linked to some affiliates.
How To Be A Sidekick (09/15/2010) is a comedic page with know general purpose, other than inspiring something off-the-wall to talk about.
Edit Add: (10/07/2010) I submitted a nearly finished lens in October called 10 Top Horror Classics. It follows the "Top 10" line of thinking.
When I returned in December, after doing no work, I noticed (around the 11th), that they had earned $.38, a small, paltry amount. The H.P. Lovecraft lens seems to be generating the most interest, which I accrue to a "niche" topic (plus, he's one of my favorite authors). The worst performing lenses are the ones on Elliptical Machines and on Muscle Building; I believe that the topics are too broad to generate interest. I remained interested, though, because I knew I hadn't tapped out the Squidoo resources.
On January, the earnings doubled, through no extra effort of mine, to $.85. As of now, I'm in the process of creating more lenses.

Onward With Squidoo!
After a long vacation and a move, I've finally reassembled myself and begun the process of writing and researching pieces at the Squidoo website. Squidoo is pretty interesting, utilyzing the "lens", which is a one-page site dedicated to a single topic.
The benefits of using Squidoo seem to be numerous, however, and I will be writing a journal (probably on a lens), to show my progress.
